Description

The area of the Medulin archipelago stretches from the Prisade bay to the southern part of the Močile bay on Cape Kamenjak, including all the islands and shoals of the Medulin archipelago(Levan, Levanic, Ceja, Bodula, Trumbaja, Šekovac, Fener, Fenoliga, Islet of Porer, Škoj of Premantura and Pomer).

11 uninhabited islands and islets are surrounded by crystal clear water full of life. Numerous plant and animal species have found their habitat here. Numerous meadows of seagrass Posidonia , a protected marine flowering plant, provide ideal conditions for arich community of plant and animal life. Among numerous animal species we should point out the noble pen shell, which is protected by law. It is the largest shell in the Adriatic Sea and can be seen in large numbers.

Besides great biodiversity, this area also hides many archaeological and historic assets. So that on the islands and in the waters of the Medulin archipelago we can find prehistoric remains as well as ancient and other historic sites. In the waters east of Cape Kamenjak there are the remains of a sunken merchant sailing ship from the 17th/ 18th century. I tis worth mentioning that a number of hidenn and protected bays , shallov waters and mumerous islands were an ideal area for pirates in this area who would ambush and plunder the Venetian merchant ships.

Due to the above characteristics , in 1996 the area of the Medulin archipelago was procteced in the significant landscapes category , so that the activities at sea and in the sea must not destroy or endanger the marine habitat in any way.
